School officials and longtime volunteers agreed Saturday: The 2017 Perry Prom was one of the largest any could remember.
Students began gathering at 5:30 p.m. in the PHS choir room in preparation for the annual walk-in, held again this year in the Perry Performing Arts Center beginning at 6 p.m. There were so many prom goers, and such a public turnout, that parking quickly overflowed, with many having to park as far away as the gravel lot south of Dewey Field.
Each couple was introduced and strolled across the stage, stopping at marked spots for photos. They then gathered in the PHS commons, awaiting the conclusion of the walk-in so official class photos could be taken in the varsity gym.
Prom goers then made their way to Lake Robbins Ballroom, host site for the dinner/dance. Dinner consisted of various pasta, salad and bread, with a decadent chocolate dessert topped with ice cream proving equally as popular.
Door prizes aplenty were awarded, with dancing beginning at 9 p.m. Casino games were also available for entertainment, in keeping with the twin “Las Vegas” and “Bohemian” theme, which were combined into “Las Boho.”
After-Prom activities commenced back at PHS at 12:15 a.m. and continued until 4:30 a.m.
