The Perry Pulse Dancers perform to a medley of well-known hits from Queen during their Spring Showcase Friday.

“Legends and Icons” was the theme Friday for the Spring Showcase hosted by the Perry Pulse Dancers.

The 17-member squad performed a series of numbers, in a variety of disciplines, for a large crowd in the PHS gym. They were joined by a group of Perry boys for a co-ed Beach Boys medley near the end of the show, and helped guide two groups — one of K-1-2 students, the other of youngsters in grades 3-4-5 — through a pair of fun performances.

A bake sale and fundraiser was also held, and several contests and activities in which the crowd was encouraged to participate added an extra element to the entertainment.

Pulse members and their parents were introduced, team awards presented, and the team seniors honored.

Captain Jasmin Gonzalez, Beyonce Gonzalez, Maria Izquierdo and Sarah Vaughn, along with four-year manager Sierra Newton, were the seniors for the squad this season.

A strong nucleus will return for next year, as seven juniors were on the 2019-2020 team. Evelyn Chavez, Macie Mosher, Leslie Ramos, Claire Southward, Emma Stika, Aubree Tasler, and Cindy Truong were the class of 2021 representatives. Fellow juniors Shelby De La Cruz and Linsey Oblea served as managers.

Sophomores Marielena Ramirez and Nubia Torres and freshmen Jacqueline Cresencio, Natalie Guardado, Rubi Hernandez and Kyla McKenzie were also Pulse members.

The Pulse Dancers will perform at halftime of the March 6 girls Class 1A semifinal at the state basketball tournament. The invitation is only the second one received by a Perry dance team. The game starts at 3:15 p.m.

Performing with the All-Iowa Honor Dance Squad at the tournament (date/time n/a) will be Claire Southward and Aubree Tasler.

The team is coached by Faye Southward, Lyndsey Buhrman and Rachel Rothmeyer.
