Making sure the proverbial horse is in front of the cart was the main goal of the Perry School Board, which met in a working session Monday to discuss future facility issues.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]

Perry Community School District Superintendent Clark Wicks noted no official action was taken at the meeting, which was simply a working session to discuss “facility issues that will likely come up in the next few years.”

The sunset clause on the school district’s one-cent sales tax, currently set to expire in 2029, will be an issue in any major projects going forward, Wicks said. Bonding agencies will be interested to know whether the tax will continue beyond then.

Extending the one-cent tax so would add stability to the availability of future funding and ease bonding concerns, Wicks said, while reducing the school district’s tax levy raises an important issue for the board.

The board discussed the ongoing need to improve and expand the industrial technology building at the high school and make renovations to the wrestling room located west of Dewey Field. Various possible improvements at the Perry Middle School were also discussed.

Wicks said working sessions — at which official actions are not taken — help him and the school board prepare for items that might come before the board in the future.
