A busload of faculty and staff members from the Perry Community School District left Perry Friday morning in order to travel to Iowa City for the annual Iowa-Nebraska Heroes Game, which this year honors longtime Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger.

Marburger died after being shot at Perry High School by a student in January. He was chosen as this year’s Iowa Hero by Corteva Agriscience, the game’s corporate sponsor, and the University of Iowa.

About 25 tailgaters left at 10 a.m. from the PHS parking lot on a chartered bus. They were snugly bundled against the temperatures, which were in the low teens.

The effort to honor Marburger by traveling to the Heroes Game was arranged by PHS math teacher and Perry native Adam Modlin. The game begins at 6:30 p.m.
