The new crop of teachers in the Perry Community School District for the 2019-2020 academic year gathered Monday for an orientation program, including a tour of the schools.
The district hired 23 new faculty members for the school year starting Aug. 23, including 21 in certified positions.
PCSD Director of Teaching and Learning Kevin Videgar led the orientation, which included a brief welcome after lunch from Jenn Nelson, vocal music instructor at the Perry Middle School and Perry High School and president of the local bargaining unit of the Perry Education Association, the teachers’ union.
Nelson gave each teacher a small packet of information along with a couple of perks, gift cards to Ben’s Five and Dime and the Perry Perk coffeehouse.
The new recruits include Mackenzie Baldwin, Ryan Burger, Mari Butler, Casey Canaday, Michael Craig, Benjamin Evans, Madison Gay, Veronica Gilreath, Kenneth Hegwood, Amanda McDivitt, Adam Modlin, Scott Mortensen, Megan Newland, Rachel Nuhn, Kelsey Pettijohn, Samantha Ruggles, Alicia Schmitt, Broc Sorensen, Erica Stevenson, Emmaleah Veldboom and Katelyn Whelchel.
