WAUKEE — While riders were trying to stay warm on BRR Saturday, a select group of Perry High School students were heating up the rankings at the Large Group State Speech Contest.
Perry had eight entries at the state event, with four groups earning Division 1 ratings and four others Division 2 scores. Highlighting those results were that two of the groups earning top ratings were also recommended for All-State competition.
Receiving Division 1 status and a recommendation for All-State were the Readers Theater “Dear Diary” quintet of Alicia Calderon, Brooke Huntington, Mariah McNamara, Janet Ortiz and Sarah Sweet as well as Sidney Vancil and Skylar Cunningham in Short Film with “Trapped.”
While both groups advance to All-State, neither will perform, although they will attend and be recognized as participants. The All-State event is Feb. 20 in Ames.
Also receiving Division 1 ratings Saturday were TV News “RBQ, A Look Back” with Hannah Sackett, Adrian Thompson, Abbi Weir and Gage Welch while Amani Al-Rashid and Karley Whelchel were scored Division 1 in Ensemble Acting “The Best Escape.”
