Perry swimmers divide home set with Spencer, Atlantic

Teams from Spencer and Atlantic made long trips to Perry Oct. 10 for a girls swimming double-dual at the MCB Pool. The format has each team scored independently against each of their opponents.

Spencer had 18 swimmers present, by far the largest squad. They defeated Perry, 89-67 and Atlantic, 107-23, with Perry a 92-25 winner over Atlantic.

Perry was second to Spencer and bested Atlantic (no entry) in both the 200 free (1 minute, 48.29 seconds) and 400 free (4:02.95) relays, with Lily Riley, Sophia McDevitt, Zoe Hibbert and Quin Mahler-Moreno in both. The foursome of Maddie McDevitt, Emily Dowd, Jenna Nelson and Hailey Peterson were second in the 200 free in 2:11.09, with the same quartet 3-1 (no Atlantic entry) in the 200 medley relay in 2:28.93.

Riley was 1-2 and Nelson 3-3 in the 200 free in 2:13.89 and 2:23.75, respectively, with Mahler-Moreno a double-winner in the 200 IM while resetting her own school record at 2:14.45, a drop of .97 ticks.

Sophia McDevitt was 1-1 and Dowd 2-2 in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.34 and 1:28.97 (PB ny .89) with Hibbert 2-1 (1:01.1) and Maddie McDevitt third to Atlantic in 1:11.67 (PB drop of 4.05 seconds) in the 100 free.

Riley touched 1-2 in the 500 free in 6:13.12 with Dowd 2-3 in 6:33.2, a trimming of 3.97 seconds off of her previous best time.

Sophia McDevitt (1:11.4) was 2-1 in the 100 backstroke, with Maddie McDevitt second to Atlantic in 1:23.65, with Mahler-Moreno (1:09.58) 1-1 in the 100 breaststroke as Nelson was second to Atlantic in 1:26.26.

Hibbert swam the 50 free for the Jayettes, placing 2-1 in 27.7 seconds.

Perry returns to action Oct. 25 with a visit to Carroll, with Algona also expected to compete. The regional meet will be held Nov. 5 at Waukee.
