Perry swimmers drop both ends of double dual

GRINNELL — Host Grinnell posted a 67-31 win over Perry, with Williamsburg claiming a 71-20 victory in double dual action at Grinnell College Tuesday. Williamsburg was a 60-40 victor over the hosts.

Perry was swimming without Jaylene Karolus, who was competing in cross country, but the team still managed to post quality results.

Senior Sarah Vaughn had a season-best clocking of 6 minutes, 17.61 seconds in the 500 free to place first against Grinnell and second to Williamsburg. She was second to both in a personal-best 2:44.61 in the 200 individual medley.

Gracie Phillips was 1-3 (vs. Grinnell-Williamsburg) in the 100 backstroke in 1:18.55, with Amanda Holwegner 2-3 in the 100 breaststroke in1:28.54 while Hailey Meacham touched 3-3 in the 200 freestyle in 2:45.14.

Avery Miner was 2-3 in the 100 free in 1:09.36 and Holwegner 3-3 in the 50 free in 30.59, with Perry leaving the 100 butterfly uncontested.

Miner, Meacham, Phillips and Vaughn teamed to place 1-2 in the 400 free relay (4:49.78), with Phillips, Holwegner, Vaughn and Miner 2-2 in the 200 medley relay (2:25.31). Perry was 2-3 in the 200 free relay, with Holwegner, Miner, Meacham and Rhylan Agan combining to finish in 2:18.52.

Perry returns to action Tuesday when they host Atlantic and Spencer at the MCB pool. They will conclude their regular season Oct. 21 with a visit from Algona and Carroll. Both meets will start at 6:30 p.m.
