The Perry swim team will join seven others for a regional meet Nov. 6 in Johnston, it was announced Friday.

Joining the Jayettes and host Dragons will be Ankeny, Atlantic, Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, Grinnell, Lewis Cental, and Osklaloosa. No fans will be allowed at the venue.

Perry has quietly had an most impressive season. The Jayettes are 7-4 overall, with losses coming only to far larger teams from Indianola (twice), Boone, and Spencer.

Veteran coach Jean Dowd and assistant Hilary Mahler began the season with only eight swimmers, and an injury to junior Gracie Phillips has reduced that number by one.

The small roster size both limits flexibility during meets with who-swims-what and impacts each of the three four-swimmer relay races. With points awarded to fifth place in the eight individual events and to third in the relays (save at double-duals, where the number is reduced to three and three, respectively), a premium is placed on high finishes, otherwise sheer numbers will swarm a short-numbered team.

Panorama shares girls swimming with Perry, with senior Amanda Holwegner and junior Phillips the two such members. Junior Jaylene Karolus and sophomore Rhylan Agan are also on the team, with four freshmen — Emily Dowd, Zoe Hibbert, Sophia McDevitt, and Jenna Nelson rounding out the roster.

Perry will complete their regular season Oct. 27 against Algona and host Carroll.
