INDIANOLA — For the second time in nine days the Perry swim team competed in host Indianola’s pool, and this time the pair were joined by a talented and experienced Des Moines Roosevelt squad.

The meet was scored as a straight triangular, and with only five swimmers available to compete, the Jayettes were simply mauled by the larger rosters and greater depth of the opposition. Roosevelt finished with 152 points (which included points from diving) while Indianola had 112 points and Perry 37.

Head coach Jean Dowd’s squad still managed to find bright moments, including in the final event of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay. The foursome of Dannah Karolus, Abby Herman, Amanda Holwegner and Sarah Vaughn shaved five seconds off their previous best time this season to finish in 4 minutes, 21.13 seconds, earning second-place points in the process.

Vaughn was third in the 500 free in 6:18.49, with Karolus fourth in a personal-best time of 1:02.65 in the 100 free while Herman posted a personal-best clocking of 28.72 in the 50 free. She was fifth, with Holwegner sixth in 30.35.[wpedon id=”85410″ align=”left”]

Senior Anna Ridnour was fifth in both the 200 IM (2:46.42) and the 11 breaststroke (1:28.91), with Vaughn fourth in the 200 free (2:23.09) and Karolus fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:16.25).

The 200 free relay quartet of Karolus, Herman, Holwegner and Ridnour were fifth in the 2:00.34, with the 200 medley relay grouping of Vaughn, Ridnour, Herman and Holwegner fifth in 2:21.88.

The Jayettes did not compete in the 100 butterfly.

Perry returns to action Tuesday when they host Storm Lake at the McCreary Community Building pool. The meet will begin at 6:30 p.m.
