The Perry Summer Swim Team found themselves on both ends of the shortened-roster spectrum last week, falling to host Carroll in their outdoor pool Tuesday, then overpowering the small Lake City squad at the MCB Pool Thursday.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

Missing most of their high-scoring boys Tuesday likely cost Perry a win as Carroll slipped off with a 310-284 victory despite the stout efforts of the remaining boys who were present. A full-strength Perry team then had little trouble in topping Lake City, 441-122, Thursday even as several Lake City swimmers posted excellent individual efforts.

The discrepancy for Perry was obvious when totaling first-place finishes. The PSST girls had 38 such results against Carroll while the PSST boys had only seven. In contrast, the PSST boys finished with a 50-44 edge in first-place results in Thursday’s meet.

Isaac Winey (8U) and Joel Storey (11-12) each had three wins against Carroll, with Kane Mahler-Moreno winning once.

Sophia McDevitt (11-12), Jaylene Karolus (13-14), and 15-18 racers Dannah Karolus and Breanna Penenger were the four five-time winners for the PSST girls Tuesday. Sarah Prombo (8U) and Quin Mahler-Moreno (11-12) had four wins apiece, with Maddie McDevitt (9-10), Zoe Hibbert and Lilly Riley (both 11-12), and Anna Ridnoru and Sarah Vaughn (both 15-18) all had double-victories.

Isaac Winey (8U) had five wins for PSST Thursday, with Kane Mahler-Moreno (9-10), Garrett Winey (11-12), Jacob Storey (13-14), and Ethan Winey (15-18) also quintuple winners.

Townes Wilson (9-10) had four wins, Sam Ridnour (13-14), Andrew Dowd, and Drew Storey (both 15-18) three wins each and Bryan Anderson (9-10), Cristopher Gonzalez, Marcus Nelsen, and Isaac Noble (all 13-14) joined by Eli Noble (15-18) in providing two wins apiece while Dysen Deardorff (8U), and Riese Archer (15-18) had wins as well.

Dannah Karolus and Breanna Penenger (both 15-18) were the lone five-time girls winners Thursday, with Izzy Powell (8U), Aleah Karolus and Maddie McDevitt (both 9-10) winning four times apiece while triple victory claims were made by Sarah Prombo (8U), Quin Mahler-Moreno and Sophia McDevitt (both 11-12).

Thursday’s twin-win swimmers for the PSST girls included Clara Noble (9-10), Zoe Hibbert and Lilly Riley (both 11-12), Jaylene Karolus (13-14), and Anna Ridnour and Sarah Vaughn (both 15-18).

A wide variety of pool and team records were broken or reset, many simply improvements from earlier this season.

The girls 11-12 medley relay unit of Sophia McDevitt, Quin Mahler-Moreno, Lilly Riley and Zoe Hibbert set a team mark of 2 minutes, 36.76 seconds, with McDevitt’s 1:17.62 in the 100 IM a new team record.

Mahler-Moreno reset the team and pool record to 40.95 seconds in the 11-12 50 breaststroke, with Sarah Prombo’s 50.21 in the 8U 50 freestyle breaking the 2015 mark of 53.29 set by Delaney Platt.

McDevitt set a team mark of 1:11 in the 11-12 100 free, with Lake City’s Ellie Beagle shattering the pool record with a 1:07.92. Beagle had earlier reset the pool record in the 11-12 100 IM with a 1:16.46.

The 11-12 200 free relay foursome of Mahler-Moreno, Riley, Hibbert and McDevitt set new team and pool marks of 2:19.84.

Ellie Beagle was not done for the visitors, establishing a new pool record of 34.98 in the 11-12 50 butterfly, nipping the old standard of 35.00 set by Guthrie Center’s Jessica Sheehy in 2012.

Ashley Beagle put her name on a pool record for Lake City as well with  a 1:06.25 in the 13-14 100 freestyle.

The only boys record to change came in the 11-12 100 free, where Garrett Winey’s 1:19.29 eclipsed the 1:21.83 posted by Perry’s Jonah in 2012.

Perry hosts Denison Tuesday and visits Manning Thursday. They will entertain Glidden June 26, travel to Sac City June 28, and end the regular season July 5 at Jefferson.
