Perry swimmers split with Algona, Boone

With wet and cold conditions prevailing outside, the Perry girls swimmers and coaches held a ceremonial "bell ringing" after recording a win over Algona in a double-dual Tuesday that also featured Boone. Photo courtesy Jim Dowd.

Algona and Boone were both in attendance Tuesday for a double dual hosted by Perry at the McCreary Community Building pool.

Scoring is recorded for each team against each opponent individually. Boone topped Perry, 63-35, and handled Algona, 79-21, with Perry besting Algona, 55-43. Results for Perry are listed as against Algona first/Boone second.

Perry was first against Algona and third against Boone (1-3) in the 200 freestyle relay in 2 mintues, 4.51 seconds, with the Jayettes 1-2 in the 400 free relay in 4:20.81. Gracie Phillips, Amanda Holwegner, Jenna Nelson, and Zoe Hibbert swam the former, with Hibbert joined by Emily Dowd, Jaylene Karolus and Sophia McDevitt swimming the latter. The hosts were disqualified in the 200 medley relay.

Dowd was 1-3, in 2:41.1, in the 200 free, with Karolus 1-1 and Hibbert 2-2 in the 200 individual medley with times of 2:25.82 and of 2:51.26, respectively, Karolus cutting 3.16 seconds off her previous personal best.

Karolus and McDevitt were 1-1 and 2-2, respectively, in 1:03.82 and 1:05.76, in the 100 butterfly. The former rest a personal mark by .27 ticks and the latter her own PB by 1.38.

Holwegner (1-2, 28.84) and Phillips (3-2, 31.99) in the 50 free, with Hibbert (1-2, 1:07.78) and Nelson (2-3, 1:09.48, a PB drop of .74) in the 100 free.

Dowd finished 2-3 in the 500 free with a clocking of 7:16.5. McDevitt was 1-1 and Phillips 2-3 in the 100 back, touching in 1:07.75 and 1:17.75. Holwegner swam the 100 breaststroke for Perry, placing 1-2 in 1:23.34.

Perry returns to action Thursday with a visit to Indianola.
