Perry track teams compete at Carroll coed meet

CARROLL — Monday witnessed the Perry boys and girls track squads visiting Carroll for the annual Tiger Coed Relays.

South Central Calhoun topped IKM-Manning, 140-128, for the boys team title. Greene County was third with 100 points, with Carroll (73), Audubon (40), MVAO/COU (35), Perry (35) and Woodward-Granger (31) rounding out the field.

Carroll’s 139.5 points claimed the girls crown, with Greene County (94), IKM-Manning (92) and Roland-Story (89) placing 2-4. Audubon (73), MVAO/COU (39.5), W-G (35) and Perry (20) were also in action.

The Perry boys were first in one event, the 400, as Kaleb Olejniczak sped to victory in 52.99 seconds.

Hayden McFarland was third in the 3200 in 11 minutes, 47.16 seconds, with Bryan Funez sixth in the 1600 in 5:13.45 while Kato Dougan placed fourth in the 100 (11.73) and sixth in the 200 (24.71).

Jeb Stewart finished the 100 hurdles in 19.57 and the 400 hurdles in 1:08.73 while Ethan Miller posted a 2:30.57 in the 800.

Olejniczak, Dougan, Justin Stammer and Byron Melendrez placed third in the 4×400 in 3:43.78, with Colin Malmberg, Joseph Clark, Jordan Long and Jeremiah Cregeen fifth in the 4×200 in 1:44.31 while Clark, Stammer, Melendrez and Funez teamed to place fifth distance medley in 4:08.53.

Malmberg, Clark, Long and Carlos Calderon ran the 4×100 (50.08), Malmberg, Clark, Cregeen and Miller the sprint medley (1:53.28) and Malmberg, Stewart, Miller and Ben Stika the 4×800 (10:51.45).

Long placed fifth in the long jump by hitting the sand at 18 feet, nine inches, with Cole Snyder sixth in the discus at 112’6 while Luke Holtorf pushed the shot put 38’8.

The Jayettes did not compete in either jumping event, with Rylynn Gilmore throwing the shot put 20’10-1/2 while Elaine Thomason spun the discus 63 feet.

Perry’s 20 points came from freshman Jaylene Karolus, who won both the 800 and the 3000. She finished the former in 2:38.58 and claimed the latter by more than 43 seconds after crossing the line in 11:41.15.

Peyton Tunink ran both the 100 (20.57) and 400 (1:24.46) hurdles, with Isabella Nath ran the 1500 (6:36.37).

Zari Hopper competed in the 100 (15.8), Mary Ann Riesberg the 200 (32.23) and Alyssa Grow the 400 (1:10.65) for Perry.

Riesberg, Hopper, Viviana Escalante and Lanie Fish teamed for the 4×100 (1:02.27) and Fish, Stephanie Garcia, Joanna Rodriguez and Alondra Avila the 4×200 (2:20.23) while Grow, Karolus, Kennedy Tunink and Cindy Troung handled the 4×00 (4:48.77).

Kennedy Tunink, Troung, Grow and Sandra Perez competed in the sprint medley (2:17.87) while Perez, Escalante, Riesberg and Nath passed the baton in the distance medley (5:37.96).

Perry will return to action Thursday when they host the Bluejay/Jayette Relays at Kaufman Track.
