WINTERSET — The Perry track teams are assured of being represented in at least three — and maybe as many as three more — events at the Class 3A State Track Meet next week. Perry competed Thursday at the 3A District 8 qualifying meet in Winterset.

Jayette senior Taylor Lathrum will be the first Perry girls thrower since 2006 to compete at the state meet after placing second in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 1-1/2 inches. Current throwing coach Emi Einck was fifth in the discus at the state meet as a Jayette senior in 2006.

Junior Emma Olejniczak ran well under her seed time to finish second in the 400 in 1 minute, 4.54 seconds to secure a spot on the blue oval at Drake Stadium.

The Bluejays also have a 400 meter entrant, as Adan Medina placed second to earn a position in Des Moines.

Sophomore Reece Dunlap was third in both the 100 and 200 dash, but ran well enough that his unofficial times of 11.23 and 23.13 seconds are both likely to earn one of eight statewide at-large bids.

The Bluejay 4×800 relay is also awaiting word on a possible at-large bid. Official qualifying lists were not expected to be released until this morning.

ThePerryNews.com will provide full details from Thursday’s meet, including video clips, photos and interviews with several athletes, later today.
