A Perry woman was arrested Saturday night after allegedly assaulting her husband after a party.

Melissa Jean Vercuiel, 29, of 2801 First Ave., Perry, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at a residence in the 2800 block of First Avenue, where officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that he and Vercuiel were returning home from a party in the downtown area, and Vercuiel was allegedly “was hitting him in the face on the way home, and that’s why he had a bloody/cut lip,” according to court records.

The officers made contact with Vercuiel, who told the officers that the victim allegedly “pushed her, causing her to fall face first into the driveway, causing injury to her teeth and lip,” according to court records.

A “witness from across the street came over and said he saw everything,” according to court records. The witness’ account “matched entirely with the victim’s” in claiming that Vercuiel “was running at” the victim’s “car when it looked like she tripped and fell face first.”

Vercuiel was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Dec. 18 in Dallas County District Court.
