About 60 workers and elected officials for the city of Perry gathered Wednesday at the Perry Police Department for the tenth annual Employee Safety and Appreciation Day.

The program began at 10:30 a.m., with opening remarks from Perry Mayor Dirk Cavanaugh, who thanked the gathered workers for their devotion and professionalism and noted the many good things he hears about Perry from people around the state.

Reports and presentations followed, with Perry Financial Officer Susie Moorhead discussing the city’s annual claim review and Craig Fink from TrueNorth Insurance outlining the Near Miss program. Retired Dallas County EMS Director Mike Thomason rounded out the day’s program with a discussion of the impact of concussions.

The Employee Appreciation Day ceremonies honored workers and elected or appointed officials for reaching service milestones in 2024. Each received a certificate of appreciation for his or her tenure in service to the Perry public. Among the certificate awardees were:

  • David Gliem, Water Pollution Control, 25 years
  • Justin Lloyd, Perry Water Department, 20 years
  • Matthew Hix, Perry Volunteer Fire Department, 15 years
  • Rebecca Halling, Parks and Recreation Department, 10 years
  • Israel Balthazar, Perry Volunteer Fire Department, 10 years
  • Joshua Moore, Perry Police Department, 10 years
  • Scott Kopecky, Perry City Hall, five years

The city officials were thankful to numerous area businesses who donated prizes for the city employees, with the result that no one left the celebrations empty handed.
