Perry wraps regular season with pair of road dates

NEVADA, IA — A Thursday trip to Nevada followed a Tuesday visit to Jewell as Perry volleyball concluded their regular season.

Perry (9-27, 2-5 in HOIAC play) started the week with a 3-0 loss to South Hamilton (13-18, 3-4) on scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-19, with Nevada (22-13, 7-0) winning 3-0 with finals of 25-8, 25-13, and 25-10.

Miley Sanchez had a combined eight assists in the two matches, with Gaby Orellana adding six, Yamilet Ortega five, and Addison Huntington one. Ashley Cerna led Perry with seven total kills, with Callie Steva and Kathryn West both having three and Sanchez and Tunink two each. Ortega and Ayden Erickson also had kills.

Steva was credited with 4.5 blocks, with Tunink having a block and West having an assisted block.

Huntington and Steva had 15 digs apiece, with Karagyn Whelchel and Tunink tallying 12 digs each while Cerna had 10. Sanchez notched seven digs, Orellana, Yamilet Gonzalez and Charity Parnell apiece, Ortega four, while both West and Madison Stika finished with three each. Single digs were provided by Erickson and Taylor Leslie.

Perry served a combined 93 percent (79-of-85) combined.

Sanchez was 17-of-18, Steva 12-of-12, Whelchel 10-of-10, Ortega 8-of-8 and Cerna 9-of-9. Orellana was 6-of-7 behind the serving line, with Parnell 5-of-5, Stika 4-of-4, Huntington 2-of-2, Erickson 1-of-1 and Tunink 2-of-6.

Perry visits Ballard Tuesday to open postseason play. A win would move the team to a Thursday trip to DC-G. Game time is 7 p.m.
