Perry wrestlers compete at RRC, final home event

The Perry wrestling team saluted seniors Jeb Stewart, Hunter McDowell, and Leonard Jacobson Tuesday in the last home meet of their careers.

Perry hosted Lewis Central, Carroll, and ADM at the quadrangular, falling to CBLC, 65-6, to Carroll, 55-21, and to ADM, 46-17. The Bluejays were also in action Jan. 30 at the Raccoon River Conference meet in Adel.

Bondurant-Farrar won the RRC title with 187 points, with Winterset second at 175 and Carroll third at 164. Boone (127) was fourth, with Ballard (122), North Polk (118.5), Gilbert (96), ADM 66), and Perry (63) following.

Perry junior Cole Nelson, ranked eighth at 120 pounds in 2A, finished 3-0 Tuesday with a pin, a 4-2 win and a 20-5 technical fall. Heavyweight Alan Gomez was also 3-0, winning once, 2-1, in ultimate tiebreaker, and twice by forfeit.

A 7-2 win by Stewart at 145, a 6-4 win at 138 by Tanner Burgin, a 7-6 win at 160 by Keegan Snyder, and a forfeit at 182 to Brian Hernandez were the only other wins for Perry at the quad.

Taylor Atwell was 0-1 at 113, with Ian Castellanos at 126, Kain Killmer at 170, Kevin Colin at 220, Anthony Tlaceca at 152 and McDowell at 132 all winless in three matches.

The Jays left 106 and 195 open and twice did not compete at 113.

Nelson (35-4) was second at the RRC meet with a 2-1 mark. He won twice by pin, then dropped a tough 2-1 decision in the finals to fourth-ranked Rylie Anderson (27-1) of B-F.

Stewart (21-18) was also a conference runner-up. The senior was 3-1 with a trio of wins by decision.

Gomez (22-12) was 3-1 with a two pins and a 15-7 major decision to finish third, with Keegan Snyder (12-25) fifth at 160 with a 2-2 tally that included a 9-8 win and a victory by disqualification.

Castellanos (4-27) was 1-2 with a pin but did not place at 126, with Atwell (2-15 at 106), Kyle Hernandez (1-7 at 132), Burgin (12-26 at 138), Tlaceca (1-14 at 152) and Killmer (1-18 at 170) also in action.
