Perry senior Adan Medina closes in on his pin of Carroll's Riley Nehring Thursday during their match at 170 pounds. Medina won in 1 minute, 29 seconds.

Perry was a 51-30 victor over Carroll in their Raccoon River Conference dual Thursday, with both RRC teams making short work of Fort Dodge St. Edmond, who brought only four wrestlers to the triangular. Carroll was a 78-6 winner over FDSE, with Perry a 78-4 victor.

Cole Allison, at 126 pounds, scored the only points for the Gaels, winning by pinfall against the Tigers and by major decision against the Bluejays.

Perry’s wins in the three contested matches against FDSE began when Zach Stewart pinned Noah Carlson in 3 minutes, 13 seconds at 132 points. Bryan Funez pinned Lucas Itzen in 1:11 at 145 pounds, with Erick Funez pinning Ty Smith in 5:55 at 152 pounds.

The dual with Carroll began at 285 pounds, with Perry senior Tyler Soll needing just 63 seconds to record a pin over Josh Luft.

Freshman Tucker Strough was on the mat next, at 106 pounds. He had seeming control of the match against Alex Pontow in the first two-minute period, but Pontow scored two take downs and three near-fall points before Strough suddenly found an energy reserve and turned the tables, scoring a win by pinfall in 3:59.

Sophomore Kaleb Olejniczak (113 pounds) and junior Zach Thompson (120) are both ranked sixth in the Class 2A at their respective weights and neither was imperiled Thursday. Olejniczak tallied a 19-3 technical fall (in 5:45) against Cade Neuman, with Thompson needed just 57 seconds to pin Bryce Wuebker.

Two more tech falls followed, with Mana Martinez a 17-1 winner, in 4 minutes, over Trevor Jons while Zach Stewart was an 18-3 victor against Ezra Dirks in 2:21.

Perry’s lead ballooned to 39-0 after Justin Stammer pinned Devon Schweitzer in 1:17 at 138, but consecutive wins by fall at 145, 152 and 160 kept Carroll mathematically alive at 39-18.

The issue was decided for a certainty in 89 seconds at 170 pounds, where Adan Medina put Riley Nehring’s shoulders to the mat. Angel Escobar pinned Dylan Delp in 2:39 at 182 to cap the Bluejay scoring, with the Tigers collecting pinfall victories at 195 and 220 to cap the dual.

Perry will compete Saturday at the Waukee Duals. The Bluejays will be in action five times at the event, their final competition before the holiday break.
