While the Bluejay matmen will be battling for victories Jan. 18, they will also be drawing attention to a far more important struggle -- the fight against cancer. Photo submitted.

Carlisle and Coon Rapids-Bayard/Glidden-Ralston will be the other two teams as when the Perry wrestlers host a triangular Jan. 18.

The meet will serve as Perry Wrestling Youth Recognition night, with team members in the youth program admitted free. Youth will be admitted free only if they accompany their teammates and coach to the PHS gym. Middle school and Junior Jay wrestlers are encouraged to coordinate with their coaches about when and where to meet.

Perry has designated the triangular as their “Pin Cancer” night. All donations and funds that are raised will be donated to the Jake Can (Jake Cavanaugh) Foundation. Money collected will then go directly to a family that has a child currently battling cancer.

The Bluejays are seeking sponsors for each weight class. Those wishing to sponsor one (or more!) of the 14 weight classes, for $50 each, or who are wishing to make a donation of any amount are asked to contact Danene Stewart at 515-490-7579.

For more information, please visit the Jake Can Foundation website www.jakecavanaugh.com.

Wrestling will begin at 5:30 p.m. with Carlisle facing CR-B/G-R, which is coached by Perry grad Josh Atwell.
