A big crowd filled the Brady Library at the Perry High School Tuesday morning as two PHS soccer standouts, seniors Alex “Sushi” Banuelos and Anthony Chavez, put their signatures on Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers at Simpson College in Indianola.
On hand for the signing ceremony were family members, teammates and classmates of the two signees, as well as coaches and staff members.
Banuelos and Chavez each thanked their teammates on the PHS soccer squad along with their families and coaches.
PCSD Activities Director Katelyn Whelchel noted that only 2.7% of high school athletes go on to play college-level sports, so to send two in the same PHS class to play for the Simpson Storm is remarkable.
She also said that Simpson College does not provide athletic scholarships but does offer scholarships in academics, leadership, service and fields of study.
