Treva Melton of Perry celebrated her 104th birthday Monday, Oct. 5 with family and staff at Spring Valley Retirement Community.
Asked the secret to a long life, Treva said, “Do what you really want to do in life,” adding after a pause and a giggle — “and a little sleep helps!”
The eldest of 10 siblings, Treva has lived in the Perry area for many years. Like her mother, who also lived to see 100 years, Treva worked hard all her life. She was employed at a number of Perry businesses over the years, including the Hallmark shop at 1203 Second St., now home to the Tin Pig.
Last year, Treva celebrated her 103rd birthday at the weekly Perry Farmers Market, where she was a familiar presence, helping her good friends Geneen and LeRoy Tibben bag up their baked goods for customers, until the virus put a snag in that regular outing.
