A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at the First Christian Church in Perry for Peter “Pete” Lester, 57, of Ames. Burial will be at a later date in Peoples Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, June 3 starting at 3 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5–7 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home. Pete passed away May 21, 2016, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Peter Marlin Lester was born Dec. 1, 1958, in Perry, Iowa, the son of Keith and Marlene (Yard) Lester.

He graduated from Perry High School in 1977 and attended Iowa State University before starting his career with United Parcel Service in 1980.

Pete married Holly Meier Aug. 1, 1981, in Perry.

He loved to play golf and go fishing with his friends and his son Joey. He was a Mason and a member of the Perry Elks Club.

Survivors include his wife, Holly Lester of Ames; one son, Joey Lester of Cedar Falls; his mother, Marlene Lester of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; his sister, Trish (Randy) Appenzeller of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; nephew, Cody Appenzeller of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and niece, Annie Appenzeller of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; his sister-in-law, Michelle Meier of Minneapolis, Min.; and niece, Meredith Larson of Minneapolis, Min.

Preceding Pete in death was his father Keith Lester.

Memorials may be directed, in his name, to the Israel Family Hospice House or the Gilbert Boys Golf Team. Online condolences may be left at murdockfuneralhome.net

  3. My condolences to the Lester family. Marlene, in high school I worked for two summers as a helper on Keith’s soda delivery route and fondly remember Keith. I am sorry that I did not know that Keith had passed and was unable to send my condolences and remembrances at that time. Steven Reimer
