Sinking power poles has its risks, and Century Link suffered damage to an underground communications cable in April.

Telephone and internet service was lost for about eight hours Wednesday after crews putting in new telephone poles cut an underground communications cable near First Avenue and Park Street in north Perry.
“Some time in the mid-morning, between 9:30-10:30, I lost telephone and Internet service,” said Ray Harden. “Alliant Energy Company was drilling a hole at First and Park to set a new utility pole, and they cut the telephone cable for Century Link phone and internet.”
The city f Perry issued a Public Service Announcement shortly before 3 p.m., advising residents living north of Park Street and east of First Avenue of the disruption.
Service was restored about 6:30 p.m., Harden said.
“It was not Alliant’s fault,” he said. “The person that set the flags showing where to dig or drill had mismarked the location of the cable. This was told to me by the man that does the utility location and flagging.”

  1. Very good information about the Century Link disconnection. Is the date when this happened 4/1/15 correct? Very clear and vivid picture of the Century Link workers hard @ it. Perry News…looking good.
