PHS Academic Decathlon team takes 11th place at state contest

Perry High School’s Academic Decathlon team captured 11th place in the Small School Division of the annual Academic Decathlon State contest March 6-7 at Waterloo East High School in Waterloo.

Individual winners were senior Alexandra Tasler, who took second place in the Interview competition and second place in Economics, sophomore Lucas Davis, who took second place in the Essay contest and junior Jenna Lawson, who capture third place in the Science contest.

Under the direction of PHS Academic Decathlon Coaches Teresa Kresse and Lisa Schumacher, the six student scholars meet twice weekly to exercise their gray matter with jig-saw reading, scavenger hunts, card categorizing, Quizlets, Kahoots and similar brain games.

The PHS team is composed of seniors, Kaylynn Bousman and Alexandra Tasler, juniors Jocelyn Hopkins and Jenna Lawson, sophomore Lucas Davis and freshman Jefry Gonzalez.
