The DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy and the Perry Hy-Vee teamed up Tuesday to bring a smile to the face of Perry High School graduate Angela Hernandez.
Hernandez was the lucky winner of the Hy-Vee Grad Giveaway, selected randomly from a host of local online nominees. Prizes included gift cards and a gift basket.
“What a surprise,” Hernandez said on receiving the gifts. “Thank you so much.”
Hernandez received her diploma during Saturday’s PHS graduation ceremony and plans to start studying business marketing at the DMACC Ankeny campus in the fall. She was one of 425 high school seniors statewide to be honored in the 2020 Governor’s Scholar Program, a non-cash award from the office of the Iowa governor.
Perry DMACC VanKirk Career Academy Director Eddie Diaz said Hernandez is “an accomplished student” with a “very promising future.”
Perry Hy-Vee Store Manager Brian Osmanski and Community Events Coordinator Larry Vodenik were also on hand to present the gifts to Hernandez.
