The Perry High School Mock Trial team competed in the Iowa State Bar Association Central Regional Mock Trial Contest March 10.
The team represented the Defense in competition with Des Moines Roosevelt High School and the Prosecution in the second round, competing against Saydel High School.
ISBA Mock Trial competitions are judged by actual judges, attorneys, and law students. Performance points are awarded to teams based on their ability to portray accurately the roles of attorneys and witnesses while engaging in courtroom procedure and displaying critical thinking skills.
Teams with the highest total performance points advanced to Regional Final competition.
As the Defense, the PHS team secured a guilty verdict based on the merits of the case, with performance points of 112.5 v. 125.5 by both judges. As the Prosecution, team performance points were 106.5 v. 113 and 120 v.120.

The Central Regional Tournament was held March 10 at the Franklin Junior High School Event Center in Des Moines. Participating schools included ADM (1), Ankeny (2), Ankeny Southview (2), DC-G (2), Dowling Catholic (3), Indianola (2), Johnston (9), Perry (1), Roosevelt (2), Saydel (2), Timberline (3), Urbandale (3), Valley WDM (1), Valley Southwoods (1) and Waukee (3).
