Perry High School’s Academic Decathlon team will test their mental mettle next month at the annual Academic Decathlon State contest March 6-7 at Waterloo East High School in Waterloo.

Under the direction of PHS Academic Decathlon Coaches Teresa Kresse and Lisa Schumacher, the six student scholars meet twice weekly to exercise their gray matter with jig-saw reading, scavenger hunts, card categorizing, Quizlets, Kahoots and similar brain games.

“This year, our team is small but very dedicated and competitive,” Kresse said.

The PHS team is composed of seniors, Kaylynn Bousman and Alexandra Tasler, juniors Jocelyn Hopkins and Jenna Lawson, sophomore Lucas Davis and freshman Jefry Gonzalez, who attended well over 20 study sessions, Kresse said.

“Perry’s Academic Decathlon team is prepared to represent small schools with their best attitudes and performances,” Schumacher said. “Good luck to everyone at State!”
