About 40 students from Perry High School will perform the Broadway play “Seussical” Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6 at the Perry Performing Arts Center.

“Seussical” is a musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty based on the famous stories by children’s author Dr. Seuss. The play combines elements from some of Seuss’ most beloved works, such as “Horton Hears a Who!” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “The Cat in the Hat,” and interweaves all three stories into one cohesive narrative.

The school purchased the rights for the play from Music Theater International, according to PHS Vocal Music Director Jenn Nelson, who is teaming up with PHS Virtual Reality TAG teacher Randy Peterson in producing the show.

The cost to PHS to perform “Seussical” is $3,000, and the school will also have to pay a royalty fee for every ticket sold, Peterson said.

Nelson and Peterson said Perry High music and drama departments aim to perform a play on this scale every two years. Their most recent experience with running a large-scale play was the highly successul production of “Peter Pan” in 2017.

Tickets for the play will be $10 for adults and $8 for students and can be purchased at the high school main office. They can also be bought at the Performing Arts Center prior to each performance.

There will be three performances of “Seussical,” Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m.

The cast will also stage school previews on Tuesday, April 2, with morning performances at the Perry Elementary School, Perry Middle School and St. Pat’s school from 9-11 a.m. and an afternoon preview at Perry High School at 1 p.m.
