The Perry defense, shown against North Polk Aug. 25, will need to swarm to the ball against visiting Ballard Friday.

LAST MEETING — Ballard was a 27-6 winner in a game played in wet conditions, with rain falling for a sizable portion of the contest. The Bombers passed for 177 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 198 yards and two TDs, with Hunter Wright carrying 19 times for 85 yards and two TDs while Reece Huen caught three passes for 127 yards and two TDs. Perry gained only 23 yards in the air and just 67 on the ground.

ABOUT THE BLUEJAYS — Perry dropped a 24-7 contest at Nevada Friday after topping host North Polk, 38-31, in double overtime Aug. 25.

Alexis Garrido has hit on 27-of-49 passes for 321 yards. He has thrown two interceptions but has four aerial TDs. Reece Dunlap (13-203, 3 TDs) and Brandon Kenyon (10-107, 1 TD) have been, almost exclusively, his targets.

Mark Campos has rushed 34 times for 173 yards and a score, with Garrido (19-81, 1 TD) also a key part of the ground attack.

Campos has 22.5 tackles, Connor Kenyon 14 and Mana Martinez 12.5 to lead the defense. Martinez and Dunlap have each intercepted a pass, with Kaleb Olejniczak, Kade Killmer and Ethan McFarland each recovering a fumble.

Kicker German Alvarenga is 6-of-6 on PAT kicks and has added a 28-yard field goal.

ABOUT THE BOMBERS — While Perry played twice on the road, Ballard hosted each of their first two games, falling to Carlisle, 43-28, before smothering ADM, 43-7.

Isaac Schafbuch in 17-29-3 passing with two TDs and 208 yards. Wright (3-91, 1 TD), Kegan Odden (5-72) and Huen (5-27, 1 TD) have received the majority of the passes.

The Bombers have rushed for 405 yards and eight TDs on 81 carries. Wright (19-180, 1 TD), Skyler Noftsger (24-169, 1 TD) and Schafbuch (18-149, 2 TDs) lead the way, with Huen (9-61, 1 TD) and Gavin Hobbs (11-46, 3 TDs) also adding to the totals.

Ben Lee has 26.5 tackles, Ben Hokel 14 and Justice Sullivan 13.5, with Lee’s fumble recovery the only turnover caused by the defense so far.

OUTLOOK — Ballard, like most District 2 foes, will have a substantial edge in size, strength and experience on both side of the trenches and will likely try and establish the ground game early.

Perry has scored early in both games so far and will need to do so again. As always, a key for the Jays will be not to wear down in the second half. The Bluejay defensive backfield has been a bright spot, and must continue to play well, forcing the guests to become one-dimensional and, hopefully, shortening the game.
