Flocks of flaming pink flamingos appeared in several front yards in Woodward last week, the leading edge of a wave of feathered immigrants expected to become a common sight between now and October.

The Woodward City Council might have given a thumbs down to petitions for urban chickens, but these pink waders have been welcomed with open arms as the latest wrinkle in fundraising for the Woodward Friends and Neighbors Celebration Committee.

The Noah Schuldt family of Woodward was “the first ‘victim’ of the new fundraiser,” said Woodward Friends and Neighbors Celebration Committee Chair Michelle Lacquement, but multiple flock sightings have now been reported.

Insurance against the friendly flockers is available, with the $20 premium protecting property owners against flocks of up to 36 flamingos. For more information, send a message on the Woodward Friends and Neighbors Facebook page.
