Kansas-based professional billiards player Dave Matlock led a billiards exposition Saturday afternoon at Perry Billiards in downtown Perry.
Some 30 people attended the 2.5-hour session, with Matlock demonstrating his banking system using the diamonds and explaining whether a table plays “long or short.” He then switched to the billiard table for some three-cushion play and was just as accomplished at that game.
“The guy is phenomenal,” said Doug Royer, owner of Perry Billiard. “He answered a lot of questions on the game of today versus years ago. He is also explained the way he aims. It was fun to pick his brain. He was very nice and personable.”
Matlock played everybody a few games on the pool table and mostly “ran” out each game, showing why he is a champion on the 7-foot Bar Box. Not everyone came to play the champ. Some came just to hang out and chat with Matlock, who was happy to take pictures with people and sign a few cue balls for fans.
