WOODWARD — A fifth consecutive unbeaten regular season was cemented by visiting Van Meter Friday, with the Bulldogs shutting out Woodward-Granger, 41-0, in Class 1A District 8 play.

Van Meter tailback Dalten Van Pelt ran wild, scoring twice on 27 carries that accounted for 188 total yards. His two scores began the scoring.

The guests finished with 268 yards on the ground, with quarterback Jack Petitt adding 195 passing yards on 12-of-19 aerials. Petitt tossed two TD passes and scored once on the ground.

The Bulldogs led, 21-0, at the half and held a 34-0 advantage after three frames. The defense strangled a normally effective Hawk offense, limiting the hosts to just 88 yards of output.

Trevor Simmons was just 5-of-15 for 27 yards and an interception through the air. Worth Henry and Carter Moran each had two catches for nine yards, with Dustin Harney grabbing one pass for nine yards.

Kade Polich was the leading rusher, finishing with 44 yards on 14 carriers. As a team, W-G had 61 yards on 25 runs.

Simmons led the defense with eight tackles, with Henry making seven. Dane Polich had 5.5 stops and John McKeever five, with both recording an individual quarterback sack.

W-G (5-2) will host Colfax-Mingo (0-7) Friday in Class 1A Pod 15 play as the postseason begins. The face will face either Underwood (6-1) or West Central Valley (1-6).

Van Meter (7-0), the 1A state runner-up in 2019, received a bye in Pod 12. They await the winner of the Pleasantville (5-2) vs. AC/GC (3-4) tussle.

All first round games will begin at 7 p.m.
