Homicide ruled in death of missing Grundy Center man

The body of Michael Bruce Johns, 28, of Grundy Center was discovered in rural Floyd County Friday. His death has been ruled a homicide.

DES MOINES — An autopsy has identified the body found Friday in rural Floyd County as Michael Bruce Johns, 28, of Grundy Center, who was reported missing Oct. 26. Johns’ death has been ruled a homicide, according to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Ankeny.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s office was notified of the body found near 290th Street and Shadow Avenue, about 10 miles south of Charles City, in the area where law enforcement previously requested the public’s assistance in finding Johns.

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the cause of death is not being released at this time because the investigation is ongoing.

Johns was last seen in the area between Greene, Iowa, and Charles City, Iowa, at around 6 a.m. Oct. 25.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s office, Grundy County Sheriff’s office and Iowa DCI are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Johns’ disappearance and death.
