SHENANDOAH, Iowa — A Red Oak man was arrested here Monday on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with an early-morning shooting death.

Toby Lee McCunn, 34, of Red Oak was arrested in Shenandoah and initially transported to the Shenandoah Medical Center for an injury to his leg and later transported to the Page County Correctional Facility.

Witnesses who called 911 about 4:45 a.m. Monday said McCunn shot Joshua Lyle Jordan, 33, of Shenandoah at 901 Manti St. in Shenandoah. Officers responded and found Jordan’s lifeless body at the residence.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Page County District Court, McCunn was waiting at the Manti Street house when Jordan entered. “McCunn fired several shots with a handgun at Josh Jordan, striking him in the chest,” the complaint alleged.

An autopsy will be performed at a later date by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, according to a statement issued by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

The DCI statement said the investigation is ongoing, and no other information will be released until family members have been notified and the forensic autopsy is complete.

Along with the Shenandoah Police Department, agencies assisting in the investigation include the Page County Sheriff’s office, the Page County Attorney’s office, Red Oak Police Department, Fremont County Sheriff’s office, the Mills County Sheriff’s office and the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
