Sheldon Matthew Brittain, 32, of 822 Bridge St, Redfield, was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Friday on charges of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent and fifth-degree criminal mischief.

A Redfield man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Friday for allegedly stealing his neighbor’s motorcycle.

Sheldon Matthew Brittain, 32, of 822 Bridge St, Redfield, was charged with operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and fifth-degree criminal mischief.

The warrant was ordered in Dallas County District Court Oct. 6 in connection with a Sept. 6 incident in Redfield in which Brittain allegedly to a 1993 Harley Davidson motorcycle “without permission,” according to court records.

The incident occurred about 2:45 a.m., and the owner of the motorcycle allegedly found the vehicle “several blocks away” from his residence, with Brittain “still on the motorcycle.”

Brittain “fled the scene,” according to court records, and the victim recovered his property.

Brittain “later confessed to taking the motorcycle,” according to court records.

Brittain was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $500 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 29 in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is innocent until and unless proven guilty.
