A man was tasered early Tuesday after resisting detainment by officers of the Perry Police Department in the 12000 block of Iowa Highway 144 (J Avenue) just south of the Dallas County-Boone County line.

An officer radioed shortly after 4 a.m. for assistance with an unruly subject. Radio traffic later indicated the man was in handcuffs but still resistant.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office responded to the incident and assisted. The Boone County Sheriff’s office was summoned but later disregarded.

The officers were found with the detained man on the ground in the ditch on the west side of First Avenue just north of 123rd Street near Perry. Panting could be heard from the parties as if after great exertion, and they appeared to be damp from the ditch water.

“Why did you do it, Michael?” an officer asked the detained man, whose muffled answer could be heard but not understood.

The identity of the suspect has not been released at this hour, and the cause of his attempted flight is unknown.

The Dallas County EMS was paged in order to examine the parties for possible injuries sustained in the tussle.
