Richard ‘Dick’ James of Minburn

A graveside service for Richard James, 77, of Minburn will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 11 at Elmwood Cemetery in Minburn. Pastor David Weesner, a cousin to Richard, will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Dick’s four grandsons, Ryan James, Kody Casperson, Scott James and Travis James, and two nephews, Steve James and Bill James. Honorary pallbearers are Dick’s granddaughters, Danielle James and Casie James.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Murdock Funeral Home in Perry. A memorial has been established in Richard’s name and may be left at the funeral Home.

Richard Maurice James was born Dec. 7, 1939, in Perry, Iowa, the son of Paul and Thelma (Snyder) James.

He graduated from Washington Township School in the class of 1957.

On January 19, 1958, he married the love of his life, Rose Rittgers, in rural Perry.

Dick was a lifelong resident of the Perry and Minburn area.

He worked for 42.5 years at the John Deere Plant in Ankeny before his retirement.

He loved to go camping, and most of all loved to spend time with his grandkids and his family.

Dick was a member of the Washington Chapel Church of Christ in rural Perry.

Survivors include his wife, Rose James of Minburn; three sons, Randy James of West Des Moines, Tim (Donna) James of Perry and Mark (Tammy) James of Minburn; one brother, Robert (Leora) James of Bouton; one sister, Faye (Terry) Thompson of Des Moines; his six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Skyler James.

Preceding Richard in death were his parents and one brother, Raymond James.
