Rippey Methodists raise funds, plan Memorial Day events

The Rippey United Methodist Church hosted Pancakes for Women at the Well after their Sunday morning worship service. A free will donation was requested, with monies raised used to support the United Methodist Congregation, which is located in the Iowa correctional Institute in Mitchellville, Iowa.

The Perry First United Methodist Church, Rippey United Methodist Church and Fairview United Methodist Parish combine their support for the Women at the Will ministries as one of their joint missions.

Other upcoming events in the Rippey area in the annual Rippey alumni party, scheduled for Saturday, May 28 at noon. The meal will be cooked and served by chef Kevin Hick and his crew of willing helpers.

To make reservations, call Mary Ann Miller at 515-465-2449 by May 23. The cost is $11 and may be paid at the door. Checks should be made payable to Kevin Hick.

A short business meeting will follow the meal, and then there will be time for visiting. Verdina
Hastings will preside.

Memorial Day events in Rippey include a ceremony conducted by Kinkead-Martin Legion Post 583 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Sunday, May 29 at noon after their church services. On Memorial Day, they will conduct the ceremony again on Monday, May 30 at the Fairview Cemetery following the 9 a.m. services at the church near Perry.

The legionnaires will then conduct ceremonies at the Angus Cemetery at 10 a.m., the Old Rippey Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. and the Rippey Cemetery at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at the Rippey United Methodist Church after the services at the Rippey cemetery.

June 1 marks the end of school, and the school children will be rewarded with free pizza and movies. Sign-up forms are available at Sparky’s, the U.S. Post Office, Peoples Bank,
Rolling Hills Bank and the Rippey Public Library. Sign-up forms must be returned to the
library no later than 6 p. m. Tuesday, May 31.
