Robert Nelsen, 61, of Ankeny lost his battle with leukemia Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the Kavanaugh House in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 18 at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Perry. Visitation will be Sunday, April 17 from 4-7 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be in the Violet Hill at Perry. Memorials will be given to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home. Robert Dean Nelsen was born Oct. 6, 1954, at Perry, Iowa, to Raymond Peter and Beverly Jean (Pittman) Nelsen.

He graduated from Bayard High School.

He worked for Shorty Rose while in high school and then worked at John Deere in Waterloo and Ankeny. He then started his own business, Nelsen Plumbing in Ankeny.

He enjoyed riding his Harley and attending the Iowa State Fair. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Nelsen; brother, Ronald “Sluggo” Nelsen; and granddaughter, Cassidy Tuttle.

He is survived by his children, Tammy (Jason Taylor) Ricci and Lori (Shane) Tuttle; mother, Beverly Nelsen of Perry; grandchildren, Sophia Ricci, Ava Taylor, Sam Tuttle and Drew Tuttle; sister, Linda Mozena of Perry; nephew, Matthew Nelsen; nieces, Kim and Missy Mozena; and his friend, Theresa Hays.
