STORM LAKE — David Roberts and Drake Levan of Perry, representing local Elks Lodge 407, advanced to the Elks State Hoop Shoot Competition after winning their respective age divisions Saturday.
The format at the events require contestants to shoot 25 free throws. Roberts won the 12-13 boys division by sinking 22 of his shots, including splashing the last 17 of his attempts.
Levan sank 19-of-25 to finish in a tie, but then sank all five of his tries in a shootout to win by one point over rivals from Ames, Estherville, Jefferson and Sioux City.
The duo will compete at the state competition Feb. 27 at Grinnell College in Grinnell. State winners move on to the North Central Region 3 Hoop Shoot Semifinals in Iowa City, March 19.
