STORY CITY — Three first-inning runs proved to be enough for host Roland-Story Monday as the Norsemen were able to hang on and hand Perry a 4-2 loss in the baseball opener for both.

Trailing 3-0, Perry rallied for both of their runs in the top of the third.

Kaleb Olejniczak began the surge with a single and a stolen base, with Kato Dougan walking and both runners stealing another base to move to second and third.

A RBI-ground out from Connor Kenyon plated Olejniczak, with Quinn Helmers singling home Dougan as the hosts saw their lead shrink to 3-2.

A double and two Perry errors allowed R-S to add an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, with the Bluejays unable to make up the difference in suffering the loss.

Aaron Seydell allowed just two hits and survived six walks while striking out eight in claiming the complete-game win for the Norsemen.

Avery Meister was handed the loss for the Jays. He tossed 4-1/3 innings, yielding seven hits and two walks while striking out four and allowing three runs. Dougan relieved, surrendering a hit and a walk while the hosts scored an unearned run during his time on the bump.

The third-inning singles from Olejniczak and Helmers were the lone hits for Perry. Dougan and Kaden Boyer each walked twice, with Rylee Ray and Kenyon also drawing walks.

Perry is scheduled to host North Polk tonight with a visit to Greene County on tap for Thursday.
