A new business has opened in Perry now that RS Trailer Supply is up and running in the old Asgrow building at 235 Willis Ave., distributing wholesale trailer parts to trucking companies across the Midwest.
Stan Keller, co-owner with Ray Smith of RS Trailer Supply, said the company closed its Des Moines warehouse and moved its operations to Perry at the first of the year. He said RS sells parts to industrial trailer makers for use in skid loader trailers, dump trailers, enclosed trailers and related units.
“We import most of our stuff from China,” Keller said of his two-person operation. “We just resell it. We’re not in the manufacturing business. We buy full containers from China and break them down to what the customer wants.”
He said RS Trailer Supply’s customers include H&W Trailer Manufacturing LLC of Bridgewater, S.D., Midsota Manufacturing Inc. of Avon, Minnesota, Dolittle Trailer Manufacturing Inc. of Holts Summit, Missouri, R&M Trailer Manufacturing Inc. of Omaha and many others, most lying within a 500-mile radius of Perry.
The Perry City Council approved in November the division of a parcel owned by Carl Stukenholtz of Perry, which permitted the sale of the 21,500-square-foot building on its 1.5 acres of ground on the southwest corner of Willis Avenue and Diagonal Road in the west of Perry.
