Mark Daniel Mash, 37, of rural Adel was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder and dominion/control of a firearm by a domestic abuser in connection with the Dec. 22 death of Jakob Mash of Perry, nephew of the accused.

A murder charge was filed Wednesday in Dallas County District Court in connection with the death Dec. 22 of Jakob Mash of Perry.

Mark Daniel Mash, 37, of rural Adel was charged with first-degree murder and dominion/control of a firearm by a domestic abuser.

The victim was the nephew of the accused.

A statement released Wednesday by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office said the charges followed a homicide investigation by its office and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.

Jakob Mash was found Dec. 22 at the intersection of 258th Street and K Avenue deceased from a single gunshot wound to the head. The firearm that was used in this homicide was located and seized, the sheriff’s statement said.

Mark Mash was detained Dec. 22 on other charges and remains in the Dallas County Jail.

This investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
