Ruth Shiflet, 95, of Perry passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at the Rowley Masonic Community in Perry, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 5 from 2-6 p.m., with family present from 4-6 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will be at the Dodge Township Cemetery in Bagley.
Memorials will be given to University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at www.carrisfuneralhome.com.
Ruth Christine Shiflet was born Jan. 4, 1922, at Cowley County, Kan., to John Richard and Cora Lee (Pickett) Heffner.
She graduated from Udall High School with the class of 1940.
She was united in marriage to Dean W. Shiflet at the Methodist Church at Oxford, Kan., Jan. 3, 1942.
Before moving to Perry, Ruth was a member of the Bagley Garden Club and the Bagley United Methodist Church. She was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Perry.
Ruth enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting, pine needle baskets, calligraphy, painting and studying her family’s genealogy. They enjoyed 32 years at their winter home in Destin, Fla.
In death she rejoins her parents, John and Cora Heffner; brothers, Lawrence, Claude and Jack; and sisters, Mary Shiflet and Mae Hinshaw.
Left to cherish Ruth’s memory are her husband, Dean Shiflet of Perry; children, Deanna (Ted) Garwood of Ogden, Ronald (Nancy) Shiflet of Ames and Connie (Al Koren) Culbertson of Perry; grandchildren, Lisa (Mike Day) Sheehy of Adel, Kevin (Shaelyn) Sheehy of Alden, Kan., and Toni (Josh) Couglin of Clive; great-grandchildren, Shaye and Ryann Coughlin of Clive and Taylor Sheehy of Alden, Kan.
