Sac City visits MCB pool for Perry swim team’s home opener

The McCreary Community Building pool served as the setting Thursday for the first home meet of the season for the Perry Summer Swim Team, with Sac City the guest.

Unfortunately for the hosts, the visitors were able to compile 291 points, topping the 231 scored by Perry.

Delany Platt (8U) set a new Perry girls team record in the Long Freestyle when she touched first in 53.29 seconds, breaking the mark of older teammate Addison Huntington, who swam the distance in 57.91 last June 19.

Platt was joined by Stephanie Hill (13-14) and 15-18 swimmers Haley Vaughn and Haileigh Kenyon in posting a perfect five wins in the meet.

Jaylene Karolus (9-10) had three wins and Vivian Gonzales (15-18) two, with Sophia McDevitt (9-10) and the relay foursome of Sarah Vaughn, Breanna Penenger, Anna Ridnour and Dannah Karolus as the only Perry girls to record wins Thursday.

Karolus improved upon her own team record in the 9-10 Long Free by touching in 37.42 ticks. Her old mark of 42.73 had been set exactly one year ago, on June 4, 2014.

Four victories from Andrew Dowd (11-12) and two apiece from Devon Archer (15-18),  Riese Archer, Khyler Carstarphen, and Sam Ridnour (all 11-12) paced the Perry boys, with single victories going to Alec Burgin (8U), Marcus Nelson (11-12), Drew Storey and Chase Archer (both 13-14) and 15-18 swimmer Alex Thompson.

Sac City’s Sebastian Pek broke the MCB pool record int he 15-18 boys long free with a time of 1 minute, 3.47 seconds. The old mark of 1:03.58 had been set last June 17 by Guthrie Center’s Jack Wilson.

Perry will host Jefferson Tuesday before traveling to Guthrie Center Thursday. All IWSC regular season meets begin at 6:30 p.m.
