Team Rowley, in their ongoing effort to support the Relay for Life of Northern Dallas County, hosted a salad social Tuesday evening at the Rowley Masonic Community in Perry.
Gary Iles, Team Rowley spokesperson and co-chair of the Northern Dallas County Relay for Life, said the salad social event will help Relay for Life reach their goal of $25,000 for the year.
With seven or eight lavishly decorated and cleverly themed dining tables and a dizzying variety of salads to cool the summertime palate, the event welcomed more than 30 attendees. A silent auction and light entertainment followed the light supper.
Iles said he borrowed the idea of a salad social from friends in the Boone County Relay for Life in Ogden, where a single salad social has raised as much as $18,000. He said this year’s inaugural salad social was a success and will be repeated next summer.
Sponsored by the American cancer Society, Relay for Life raises about $5 billion annually for cancer research. The Relay for Life for Northern Dallas County will hold its annual fall relay event Saturday, Sept. 18 at Perry High School’s Dewey Field.
