SAYDEL — Woodward-Granger scored five runs on eight hits Thursday, but could not overcome five errors that combined to allow eight of nine Saydel runs to be unearned in a 9-5 win for the hosts in non-conference softball.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

W-G (0-11) led, 2-1, after one inning, but two errors and four base hits enabled Saydel (5-7) to plate five runs — all after two were out — in a decisive third inning. The Eagles tacked on two runs in the fourth for an 8-2 lead, and answered a three-run rally from the Hawks in the sixth with a final run in the bottom of the frame to cap the scoring.

Rian Jamison deserved a better fate from the circle. She allowed seven hits, walked one batter and hit two others in five innings while striking out three, but all eight runs scored against her were unearned.

Ava Petersen tossed the sixth, allowing a run — earned — on two hits.

W-G’s Emma Anderson singled and scored off a Natalie Weaver double in the top of the first, with an error allowing Weaver to score as the Hawks jumped in front, 2-0.

Kenzie Carrick was hit by a pitch to open the W-G fifth, with Macy Lisle entering as a pinch runner. A single by Katelyn Bandstra, a walk to Chloe Houge, a wild pitch and a walk to Anderson pushed one run home, with a RBI-single from Weaver and a run-scoring double from Jamison accounting for the second and third Hawk tallies in the frame.

Bandstra finished with three singles, with Weaver adding a single and a double and two RBIs. Jamison and Maddi Danti both hit doubles, with Anderson adding a single.

W-G hosts their annual two-day classic today and Saturday. The Hawks face Perry at 10 a.m. today and Lewis Central at 2 p.m. with a 10 a.m. tussle against Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln and a 2 p.m. meeting with Pleasantville on tap for Saturday.
