Bob Schirman of Perry was honored during Sunday worship services for his 45 years of service as custodian of the First United Methodist Church in Perry.
Rev. Paul Barrow, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, and Church Trustees Chair Gene Dorman praised Schirman for his devotion to the church.
Flanked by his wife, Marilyn, Schirman was presented with a plaque commemorating his length of service and a gift card in appreciation.
A reception in his honor was held following the service, where he was joined by his daughter, Angie Schulz, and son-in-law, Troy Schulz.
Schirman started working in 1970 in the old United Methodist Church building on the southeast corner of Third and Warford streets.
He continued in his role of custodian when the new church broke ground in 1973 and opened in September 1975 on the northeast corner of Third Street and Willis Avenue.
Schirman was presented with a cake at his recption, reading, “Bob, Thank you for 45 years of service to the church.”
