Perry Police Department Officer Wayne Schuttler received the Iowa Police Officer of the Year award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Oct. 23 at the VFW’s annual state conference in Des Moines.

Schuttler, who joined the Perry Police Department in 1995, was presented the award by VFW State Commander Russell “Doc” Saffell in a ceremony at the conference.

Honored alongside Schuttler was 37-year Perry Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Frank Eiteman, who was unable to attend to VFW convention.

In November 2019 the VFW Post 2060 in Perry presented its annual Public Safety Awards to Schuttler and Eiteman, and the state-level awards extend the honors accorded Perry’s longtime public servants.
